High school students are under a lot of pressure these days. Some are getting more homework, taking advance placement courses, participating in clubs, playing sports, and doing volunteer work—all while preparing for standardized tests and college applications. High-achieving students especially can find themselves feeling overcommitted and overwhelmed. That’s why, at Brattle Street, we emphasize teaching kids self-care and mindfulness alongside good study habits.
As a Mindfulness Coach, you will help students incorporate mindfulness and self-care into their schedule and routine, and guide them in developing skills that will enable them to pursue their goals without overextending themselves, feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, or missing out on the activities they care about. You will work with them to improve sleep, reduce stress, and prioritize health and wellness.
This work requires establishing trusting and productive relationships with students. As a candidate for this position, you should be encouraging, adaptable—and good with teenagers! You will be working directly with individual students and their parents to personalize a plan that builds necessary skills and new habits to help them deal with pressure and navigate situations that challenge them. You will monitor the student’s progress, advise both the student’s parents and Brattle Street about the student’s needs, and update the student’s plan if necessary. You will arrange your own schedule for working with students, conduct coaching sessions in a professional manner, and maintain clear and consistent communication with students, parents, and Brattle Street.
Your schedule should be flexible enough to accommodate online sessions at times that work for your students and their families. You should have access to Zoom, appropriate computer skills, be certified in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and/or Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and have verifiable relevant experience in mindfulness coaching and working with young people. Your educational background should at minimum include a bachelor’s degree.
